Hi,

I'm starting to configure Observatory and I want to show the subtitles Rating and Date/Time only. I save my library but it will reset to the default settings after I open Observatory again...

All the best,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

In Observatory, library window specific settings are saved with the standard macOS state restoration mechanism. Like reopening library windows upon launching Observatory, this is enabled with your System Preferences (Apple menu ▸ System Preferences). I have outlined my settings below. On my system Observatory reopens its library windows with my last subtitle settings. Hope this helps.

It works as described, thank you very much.

Ok, sadly I have to say Observatory doesn't follow my workflow on my Mac.

The problem is, that you designed Observatory your way - e.g. working with different libraries.
I'm using just one library - which's my way. So I have to change system settings just to get Observatory open to restore my settings.
On my Mac there is no other app that works like that, except for Office like apps.

This is not really helpful for me unfortunately.
Also my feature request didn't follow your rules, so I don't see why I should wait for any progress here.
I will leave Observatory for good, still searching for an app that will work for me.

Thank you very much for your effort to bring us this app to the Mac.
Maybe all other customers love Observatory but unfortunately I can't fall in love with it for reasons mentioned.
For my needs I have too much to change my own workflow - only for one app.

All the best,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

I wasn't aware that the current approach wouldn't work for you. Sad to see you already made up your mind, but I'll investigate if I can add a setting for this in the preferences anyway, to have it reopen libraries regardless the system-wide setting. Observatory is being enhanced in response to customer requests all the time.

Note that you can override the behavior by pressing the Option key while quitting the application. If you have "Close windows when quitting an app" set in your system preferences, pressing the Option key will change "Quit Observatory" into "Quit and Keep Windows" in the Observatory menu. You could use that as a temporary workaround until I have made the enhancement.

Hi Oliver,

I just realize there is in fact already a way to always have it reopen the libraries, regardless the global system preference.

Please open Utilities/Terminal and enter

defaults write com.codeobsession.Observatory NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows -bool true

Now Observatory will always reopen the libraries upon launching, regardless the global system preference. And they reopen with their last state, including that for the subtitles. I will enhance Observatory so you don't have to do this using Terminal in the future, but for now I believe this completely resolves the issue.

This has been resolved in Observatory 1.5.2. When Observatory launches it now always reopens the libraries that were previously open. No need to change the setting in the System Preferences anymore.
