What is the difference between an album and a folder?
Can I place a subset of images in an album into a folder?

How does a Source Folder differ from an album?

Could a collection of terms and their definitions be included as part of the documentation?

Just a newbie trying not to become more confused...

A source folder represents a folder in the file system. It contains the references to the images you have imported.

When you import an image, Observatory doesn't copy the file into the library, but only some of the image's metadata and a reference to the file itself. This reference+metadata is what is referred to as the "master version" of an image. When importing an image, Observatory also makes one copy of this master version, the first "image version". An album is a container of these image versions and stacks of them.

Observatory allows you to make multiple copies of image versions, process them each in different ways and put them in multiple albums or stacks, all without using significant disk space.

It gives you the freedom to organize images in many different ways, without affecting the files in your file system. For example, if you have your images on the file system organized in folders by date, you may organize them by object in one of your Observatory libraries.

Albums cannot be nested. Folders can however. Folders in an Observatory library are containers for albums, smart albums and other folders. They are used to organize albums and smart albums.

There's a glossary towards the end of the documentation. It is organized in three sections, the last of which contains terms used in Observatory. The "What's in a Library" section further explains the above.
