This has been implemented in Observatory 2. Plate solving (manual & blind) both are done in the background. Same for importing.

Observatory 2 has dual monitor support and can display and blink the images full screen, optionally on a second monitor. Adjusting the blink rate was already implemented in 1.5.

In Observatory 2 the overlay menu was replaced by a panel that gives much better control over them, including magnitude limits. The panel's settings are stored so do not need to reapplied between sessions.
